8月27日VANCITY Theatre隆重揭幕

台灣電影近年來感受到一股春風洋溢的重生氣息，今年為了呼應「望春風」（A New Journey）主題的希望與朝氣，TELUS科研台灣文化節自8月27日起至30日一連四天，假VANCITY Theatre，精心規劃屬於台灣導演新世代的五部電影，包括2008年最轟動最賣座的開幕片「海角七號」、可歌可泣的史詩愛情故事「一八九五」、大人小孩都愛不釋手的「囧男孩」、代表台灣競逐奧斯卡入圍的「練習曲」、夢想「麻雀變鳳凰」的「星光幫」紀錄片「星光傳奇」等，從愛情、親情、友情等角度切入，呈現出台灣歷史的軌跡、世代的蛻變、與社會的活力。

8月27日下午6時起舉辦開幕茶會，率先將今年文化節的台灣小吃精華端上枱面，6時30分舉行開幕典禮，7時放映開幕片「海角七號」，男主角范逸臣將隨片登台，除了帶來他親筆簽名百張CD之外，並在映後與觀眾進行交流。

A Journey Told Through the Lens of Films

Movies made in Taiwan have achieved some records in the box office in Taiwan, like "Cape No. 7" is only second to "Titanic" in box office sale since the second half of last year. The flourishing creativity in Taiwan's film industry prompted TAIWANfest to introduce a few highly acclaimed movies to Canada. In Vancouver, TAIWANfest is partnering with Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) to bring them up to the big screen in VanCity Theatre while these movies will be played in Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. Taiwan's movies have been quite established internationally. Besides the well known Ang Lee, Edward Yang attended VIFF many times himself and was highly respected and recommended in the local film circle.
