Going Green at the 2009 TELUS TAIWANfest

GO GREENAny good festival should always take the environment issues seriously. This year, TAIWANfest is taking their impact on the environment seriously by working towards a greener festival. We’re on a mission to make sure you know about each initiative we are taking to “Go Green” and encourage everyone to take part and minimize their impact in some way.

TAIWANfest is going green by taking a 3R initiative:

Reduce:

  1. Encouraging people to make use of public transportation by no longer offering free parking.
  2. Minimize the carbon footprint of postal services, letters and envelopes by utilizing web based tools.
  3. Experiment with Virtual Volunteer Training to further reduce the carbon foot print.
  4. Reduce printed materials distributed on site and make use of stationed electronics to display the same information.
  5. Encourage people to use cell phones to obtain information via text messaging to further reduce printed materials.

Reuse:

  1. Use materials from 2008 Festival to rebuild the necessary props for 2009.
  2. Encourage people to bring their reusable utensils to the festival. Offer to sell utensils at the festival to promote the concept.
  3. Encourage more participants who are promoting the green initiatives.
  4. Experiment with online ticketing for special programming for the festival; people are encouraged to print their own tickets on recycled papers.

Recycle:

  1. Comprehensive recycling program observed at the festival.
  2. Promote information on Vancouver’s various recycling program.

These are just several ways TAIWANfest is going green and if you're looking for a green festival to support this summer, consider TAIWANfest. We believe every little thing counts.
